We Can Make a Difference!
There is a lot of debate going on in a lot of political circles as to the current condition of our planet. Frankly we’re not experts on global warming and most of our staff probably hasn’t a clue how big their carbon footprint is. What we do know is the importance of what goes into our bodies, and how the condition of our air, soil and water has a profound effect on our bodies. Therefore we feel a strong sense of responsibility to take good care of the resources we have, and to help insure that the soil from which we get our soy products remains as pure as it can be.
Whatever side of the political fence of “going green” you reside, we think there are ways we can all work together to keep our planet cleaner and greener not only for us, but for the next generation. Remember, what you eat comes from the seas and the soils, and even the condition of the air has a profound effect on what goes into our farm fields and oceans. We want our natural resources kept pure so that our bodies can be pure.
Here are some terrific (and easy) ways you can make a difference. Take some time this month to make these practices a part of your healthy lifestyle.
Try compact fluorescent bulbs: these bulbs have come way down in price ($2 - $3) and typically last three times longer than a traditional incandescent bulb.
Get a programmable thermostat: programming the temperature in your home to raise and lower while you are away will dramatically reduce your heating and cooling bills and make a big difference in energy savings.
Adjust your water heater: Simply lowering your hot water heater thermostat a few degrees can save you anywhere from $20 – $50 a year.
Change the way you drive and maintain your vehicles: Drive in a manner that saves gas. Car pool. Plan your trip ahead of time and make sure you are always traveling the shortest distances possible to get you where you need to go. Keep your tires properly inflated and engine properly tuned.
Exercise! Kill a few tasks all at once, and instead of taking the car, ride your bike, walk or jog to the store for those little items.
Stay closer to home: We bet that there are a lot of really fun things you haven’t done right in your own back yard. Find a few of them instead of traveling cross-country. It will help support you local economy at the same time.
Reuse and Refill: All of those plastic water bottles and up to a lot of plastic consumption. Get bottled water from your local water store and reuse those little plastic water bottles!
Save Some Water: Use low-flow faucets, showerheads, and toilets. Every little bit helps.
Start a compost pile. Put all of your organic waste into a compost pile. This will keep our landfills from filling up and will provide you with some valuable fertilizer!
Buy Local: If possible, buy foods that come from your local farms.
Recycle: There are probably many things you are throwing away that can be recycled. Virtually almost everything can be recycled, but make sure at a minimum you recycles your newspapers, plastics, and metals!
Cut out the Junk: Get off junk mail lists and save some trees. If you have email, make sure you do as much of your reading and correspondence as paper-free as possible!
Buy products that are made of recyclable materials.
Choose Paper: Don’t use plastic grocery bags. Always choose paper bags, or better yet bring your own bags to the store.
These tips might seem insignificant, but in reality if all of us work together and make these a part of our lifestyles we can have a profoundly positive impact on our earth.
Don’t forget to stock up on healthy snacks for the kids to pack up and take to school. This month you can take advantage of free shipping on every order over $50. Stock up on a variety of snacks including healthy bars, chips, crisps and soy nuts.
