Hopefully you are doing so by maintaining a diet rich in soy foods.

The Soy Myth Busters

Soy holds up to Scrutiny!

There is a lot of debate going on in a lot of circles about the benefits of soy, some resulting in some unfounded myths.  The Soy Myth Busters are here to debunk them!

Myth 1: Soy Is Only for Vegetarians

The Soy Myth Busters determine that while once considered an “alternative” food source, soy foods have moved from the “vegetarian only” aisle to mainstream aisles all over the store!  With the growth in the number of soy products it has become a healthy and readily available product for all to enjoy, and found more easily by visiting www.genisoy.com.  This myth is definitely busted!

Myth 2: Soy Foods Cause Cancer

Myth #2 argues that the phytoestrogens (plant estrogens) contained in soy foods actually promote the growth of some cancers.  Again we bust this myth by stating that the majority of research done shows soy to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of cancer.  The Soy Myth Busters want to remind our audience to pay attention to who is actually doing the research.  Many times the research is being done by opponents of soy foods.

Myth 3: Good Soy Products are hard to Find

Anyone reading this newsletter probably agrees with the Soy Myth Busters that a huge variety of soy snacks, chips and foods are easier than ever to find and enjoy.  Products can be readily found at your local grocery store and even now more easily found at www.genisoy.com where you can purchase and have delivered to your doorstep.  How hard is that?

Myth #4: Soy has no Flavor

Wow is this ever an old one!  The Soy Myth Busters easily debunk this myth by simply pointing to the incredibly tasty variety of flavors found in all of the Genisoy products. We have long past the “tasteless” age of soy products and have developed an array of products into many delicious flavors.

Myth #5:  Soy causes dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and reduces brain cognitive activity.

Again, all one needs to do is look at the vast majority of research relating to soy food consumption and brain health shows soy to have a beneficial and protective effect on the brain, not a damaging effect.  The Soy Myth Busters found one article that indicated possible benefits and possible damaging effects on the brains of male rats fed a diet high in phytoestrogens, but the same researchers who conducted this study also conducted other studies that found soy phytoestrogens protective to the brain.

Myth #6: Soy Causes Infertility and reproductive health problems

Myth #6 argues that soy causes hormonal problems, infertility, and desmasculinization of men. If you dig into this one you’ll find some research conclusions based on some irregular research practices.  Here’s a news flash, if you feed a rodent soy isolates during pregnancy and lactation you just might have some negative effects.  The Soy Myth Busters had to ask just one question on this myth.  Since there is a huge difference in the amounts of estrogen to which humans and fetal rats are exposed in utero, and rats aren’t naturally designed to be exposed to large amounts of estrogen, isn’t it likely that a baby rat is going to be just a little more sensitive to the effects of isoflavones?

Today, the old "you are what you eat" campaign is being replaced with a much more critical one.  Many more information sources are now saying that it's not so much that "you are what you eat" as much as it is "you are being killed by what you eat!"  Too much of what we eat is toxic, and it's creating major health problems.  More research is showing us that these health problems are being connected to what we are eating.  The result of our poor diets can eventually lead to a host of problems including obesity, heart issues, high blood pressure, cancers, depression, addictions, and a whole lot more.

Diet related diseases are a risk for every one of us.  Failure to eat right can and will weaken our immune system and cause a host of problems.  Heart disease in particular remains the number one killer in America of both men and women, and is largely brought on by what we eat.  Lifestyles that are filled with inactivity, overeating, not eating enough fruits, vegetables, and other disease-fighting soy phytochemicals is leading us down a grim road.  But we don’t have to go there!

The primary and also simplest way to get healthy is through diet and exercise. Add to this finding ways to reduce stress and making sure you get regular medical checkups.  As part of your diet, soy is a proven way to help maintain good health.  Researchers have been investigating the effects of soy foods and soy protein on risk factors for many types of disease for several decades.  Even the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has concluded that soy protein consumption included in a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by lowering blood cholesterol levels.  Soy protein with naturally occurring isoflavones may well help prevent certain types of cancer, osteoporosis, and alleviate menopausal symptoms.

Living a life of health is really very simple to do.  Simple lifestyle changes can drastically reduce your chances of meeting a life-threatening disease.  Exercise, do what you know is right and don’t eat what you know isn’t good for you.  Stay away from the fast foods altogether, and instead of reaching for that cupcake or candy bar, grab a piece of fruit or delicious Genisoy protein bar!
