With all the talk of the flu, your health and the health of your family is more important than ever to all of us here at Genisoy. This is why we continue our mission to provide up to date information and products that will help you live a stronger, happier and better life. Welcome to the Genisoy Live Better Newsletter!
November signals the beginning of fall as the leaves change, the weather cools, and we prepare to set our clocks back and settle into the early darkness. November also begins to tickle our taste buds in anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday season, when all too often we find ourselves filling out around the mid-section much more than planned.
Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for our blessings, but can also be a time of indulgences to avoid! This season is a time to make sure we are watching what we eat and drink, and also a time we should be taking care to build our immune system against the colds and flu that increasingly rear their ugly heads during these times of temperature change.
Many of us, especially those with children in school, will deal with colds and flu. Fall is a time to stay on guard by making sure we continue to eat a healthy diet, maintain a regimen of regular exercise, and follow a few simple rules in order to stay healthy. Many of us will also struggle this month with temptations to overeat. In this month’s Live Better Newsletter we are going to provide some practical tips on how you can stay on the road to proper fitness, and how you and your family can fight the common cold and flu by keeping your immune system strong!

Don’t let that Turkey get the Best of You!
During the month of November, and as Thanksgiving approaches, the temptation to overeat can be overwhelming. During this time of temptation, remember that Genisoy can help! In addition to the vast array of benefits derived from the consumption of soy products, there is a steady stream of information indicating that soy has a powerful connection with the ability to say “No!” to those extra helpings of food. In other words, when soy consumption goes up, hunger goes down.
Research confirms that a diet including soy may be a significant factor in controlling caloric intake. It has been found that protein makes you feel full, or increases your state of satiety, for longer than if you ate mostly carbohydrates. The feeling of being full can lead to eating fewer calories during the day! Soy foods have fewer calories, less fat and more protein than many other sources of protein. Therefore, top-quality, lean protein from soy foods can aid in weight control and limit the craving for more food!
Make sure you have plenty of Genisoy soy foods, snacks and powders in the house throughout the entire holiday season! Visit our web site for some great recipes this holiday season at http://www.genisoy.com/recipes/

Beat the Flu…and the Common Cold!
When it comes to the health of you and your family there is no compromise! Every day all of us breathe in hundreds of thousands of micro-organisms, including cold and flu viruses. If you are not eating right, are tired or fatigued, are over-stressed or not getting enough exercise, then your immune system may not be ready to fight off the cold and flu virus. There are things you can do to keep you and your family free from the common cold.
- Avoid close contact with people you know are sick!
- Don’t touch your face.
- Drink lots of fluids. Stay well hydrated.
- Get plenty of regular exercise. Exercise helps increase your body's virus-killing cells.
- Eat right! Make sure to consume plenty of foods containing phytochemicals, dark green, red, and yellow vegetables and fruits. Soy contains isoflavones which are phytochemicals. Visit our web site for some great recipes to help you eat right this holiday season at http://www.genisoy.com/recipes/.
- Get plenty of fresh air. Staying inside increases the chance of dehydration which can increase your chances of catching a cold. Also, more germs “hang around” inside your house making you more susceptible to catching them.
- Avoid sharing any items with anyone who has a cold. Don't drink from the same glass or use the same towel or pillow. At work, don’t touch a computer keyboard or telephone receiver that has been recently used by someone with a cold.
Make sure you clean your hands often.
- Get plenty of sleep.
- Avoid touching heavily used public door knobs, drinking fountains, restroom fixtures or other heavily touched items. Again, make sure to wash frequently and keep your hands away from your face.
- Don’t smoke, and limit alcohol consumption.
Many foods filled with antioxidants can contribute to a strong immune system. Fresh fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants which may promote a healthy immune system, and soy foods from Genisoy are also filled with antioxidants such as C, E, and Selenium. The bottom line in preventing the common cold is to build and maintain a strong immune system. It really works. Doing these simple things can drastically reduce or even eliminate your chances of catching a common cold.
